The world has gone mad for AI!
Some are all for it.
When ChatGPT burst onto the scene, it was like Christmas had arrived. Many couldn’t wait to get their hands on the new, shiny toy. They got it to draft their CVs, conduct their research and formulate their email correspondence. However, many did this without first understanding the privacy and data implications or indeed its accuracy. We all have anecdotes about OpenAi fails!
Many businesses will have felt the pressure to “get with the AI trend.” Some will have invested in AI software which ultimately didn’t benefit their business at all! We heard of one case whereby a company adopted AI to automate their marketing emails. However, it didn’t carry out the ‘intelligent’ part i.e. figuring out and composing specific messaging with each client. It was just automation, but with an AI price tag!
Others are completely adverse.
Hollywood came to a standstill. SAG-AFTRA — the actor’s union — went on strike. They were campaigning for production companies to provide their members with “consent, compensation and transparency with regard to digital replicas and generative A.I. systems used to create synthetic performances.” They felt helpless and worried that they were out of a job.
News got out that tech giant Meta was going to let AI lose on their users’ social media accounts. (Rest assured — you can opt out!) Striking fear into the hearts of many, Instagram stories became a hub of doom, gloom and fear, evocative of the chain letters of old!
The reality is AI is here to stay. However, for it to be effective it needs to work with us — not against us! It needs human input and guidance.

The Brief
To build a global, online, English language testing platform.
The Challenge
Providing online testing at scale, raises a good question. How do you invigilate and prevent candidates cheating?
The Solution
We developed an entirely new and rigorously comprehensive AI engine to proctor online tests. We thoroughly considered all the possible methods of cheating. We mitigated them, by using various AI technologies all via video camera.
Facial recognition as well as audio and screen recordings, detect whether a candidate is receiving help from another person or referring to notes or resources.
Plagiarism checks report on the originality of the content submitted, flagging up answers copied from another source or generated by AI.
Offline handling deters candidates from cheating when the internet goes down. They have three minutes to get back online, or the test ends. If lost a second time, they have the balance of time left after the previous connection loss to finish.
